Start
Fort quickly got popular. On an area of 3.32 km2 trading company expanded their empire, which contained more forts and shops all around the country. All of this started just with relatively small trades for buffalo robes. The fort was located in a perfect spot, which allowed people traveling through Santa Fe Trail to stop there to maintain their wagons or refill necessary supplies.
Finish
Fort was also a very special place. The only permanent settlement which wasn't under Mexican or Native American control.

Start
The fort was made out of adobe bricks. Walls were 4.5 meters high and 1.2 meters thick. The whole building was 41 meters wide and 55 meters long. This was an incredible size for that time. Do you think it would have survived a fort battle?
Finish
The construction seems to be untouched.

Start
After 16 years of prosperity something unexpected happened, a choleric epidemic struck Indians. Fort owner made a hard decision to move his company to a different, safe, place. In 1849 the forts' legend was over. After the epidemic they tried to rebuild the empire, but the title of a main fort was already taken by another place. Do you think any interesting items are left there?
Finish
I have the feeling that somebody in the future will build this fort again and prepare a nice museum there. Who knows, if my feelings are correct.
