You see the suspect leaving his house with a big backpack and one more small bag in his hand, it's dark and late. For sure he is not going for a walk, you decide to follow him and check where he goes. You follow him keeping the safe distance until you reach the deepest canyon in the area.

You see the suspect dropping backpack to the canyon. That's the sign, you have to check what was in the backpack. Nobody throws backpacks into the canyon without a valid reason. Now it's dark and late, so you decide to take a break and come back the next day when the sun is up, so between 6:00 am and 5:00 pm.

You look down the canyon and there are two, not one suspicious bags down, for sure it's not normal to see that. There isn't a really good path down the hill, but that won't stop you. Overnight you prepared yourself with good shoes and hiking equipment. Time to go!

The backpack at the left is the one which the suspect brought to the canyon the day before, it's the first one to be checked. After opening it, you see bottles and chemistry lab equipment. Most of the items are broken, but you managed to find one in one piece. It's an evidence, you take it carefully and put it inside your bag via a piece of clothes. The second backpack looks almost the same, you also take one sample with you.

Return to John as soon as possible and tell him what happened.

Maybe the kid was right then and our suspect got scared after I visited him. Longer I think about that, it makes more sense. Good that you took samples from the backpacks, I can check fingerprints on them and compare them to our suspect's fingerprints. I used my trick and got his fingerprints when I visited him 2 days ago. I think in the hospital they should still have a water sample, maybe they could check if the substance from the backpack and their sample is the same or that. That would be the second big evidence.
