I'm fine, just a bit tired. Why? Yesterday I visited Peter, the zoologist. Wherever I have a free evening, I visit him to listen to his stories from European trips. He used to visit Europe every spring-summer to take part in research together with his friends. He knows a lot of European traditions which are totally unknown to us. How are you?

I used to visit Europe every year to research animals which I had never seen before, to meet them in their natural environment, check their behavior and help to establish proper procedures for people taking care of them. Those springs and summers where an amazing time, I hope to visit my friends at least one more time. Have you tried to spend some time with animals? No? Let's go, you will like it!

So you would like to know more about Easter traditions. I know a lot of them, as I was celebrating Easter in Europe for years. You ask very hard questions, which tradition is my favorite. Each has something unique, something which I really like and enjoy. Give me some time please, I need to think. In the meantime you can visit Henry, he is preparing egg hunt and for sure needs some help. On the way back, can you please check if my pocket watch is repaired. An indicator broke and I had to leave it for fixing at the city.

I know which tradition is my favorite, it's mostly related to the bucket of water. The same bucket as you use every day to take water from the well. I met that tradition in a few countries, of course it wasn't exactly the same everywhere, but the major theme never changed. The bucket of water. Can you please bring a few buckets? I think soon we will check what wild west citizens think about the tradition. Try to build a well to find a bucket. Remember to take planks with you!

For the first time I met the tradition in Hungary, where young women are splashed by a bucket of water. That is supposed to give them luck and fertility for the next year. Of course not every woman likes the tradition, some finds it too brutal, as being splashed with a bucket of water is not the nicest feeling ever. Sometimes a bucket of water can be replaced with a bit of perfume or other liquid. Often, little boys learn a short poem to accompany the sprinkling, and in exchange, they get a painted egg, a chocolate egg and sometimes a bit of money too.

One year I visited Poland which has a very similar tradition. There mostly all unmarried women are splashed with a bucket of water. In some areas that's treated as a sign to the woman who feels some interest in her. As in all countries, I think that happens on Monday after Easter. What time is it? Oh no! I need to check beavers. Come with me, together we can do that faster.

Water splashing is also popular in Ukraine, but there it takes three days! Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On the first day women are splashed by men, on the second day roles change and women splashes men, the last day is one big splashing where everybody splashes everybody. That tradition is part of post-Easter celebrations to wish others health and fortune. After days of splashing you need a lot of clothes and some warm food. Let's prepare them!

Slovakia has a tradition which is similar to other European countries, however there it's not only about splashing others. In Slovakia boys and young men earn a small amount of money "for their piggy bank" as well as some sweets like chocolate eggs, or normal painted eggs. However as everywhere the main point is to splash young women with the water, that gives them heath and beauty. Small boys prefer to perform a short poem instead of watering others. In some parts of the country girls are symbolically whipped with canes made of willow branches.
