NPCs are Non-Player Characters of various kinds, found in different places within the game and serving various purposes.
Duel NPCs
In the "Duel" screen accessible through the user interface, NPCs are available to carry out practice duels. NPC duels consume 5 energy points and lower your duel motivation by 2%. NPC duels are the same as regular duels in all aspects except for the fact that NPC duels are carried out instantly, and if you are passed out on one of these NPCs you will not receive the 48 hour duel protection.
With each duel you win against Duel NPCs, or Bandits, the difficulty of the available Bandits increases so that they have higher skills or better weapons.
Quest NPCs
Quest NPCs are found in the "Quests" tab. They provide quests for players to complete at their will.
Some are also scattered across the map and are needed for certain quests. These NPCs are called quest givers.
During some quests, you will be required to duel against a specific NPC in order to complete that quest. No money or experience are gained or lost from these duels, and you will not receive 48 hours of duel protection if you are passed out by one of these NPCs.
Games Mastered NPCs
On some worlds, Games Mastered events have been introduced to help bring activity back to the world. During these events, staff members are often brought into the world playing NPC characters with special roles.
